Non-timber forest products (NTFP) such as fruits, seeds, roots, etc. are an important source of income for the indigenous people living in and around forests1,2.The pressure on forests for the collection of NTFPs has motivated conservation biologists and forest managers to find ways to harvest NTFPs in a sustainable manner3,4. Identification of plant species is the first and foremost criterion in planning for sustainable utilization of resources, especially if an NTFP comes from two closely related plant species or when the identity of plant species is doubtful. Proper identification of the plant species of commercial importance can shed more light on its distribution, population status in the wild, and its resource generation capability. Lack of knowledge on distribution or population status may make the species vulnerable to extinction due to over-exploitation, especially when the population is small or has restricted distribution. Thus, proper identity of the species, from which the resource of commercial interest is collected, is very important for conservation biologists and forest managers to protect the plant species from over exploitation and extinction. Proper identity of species also enables traders and consumers to avoid adulteration of products, and aids officials concerned to prevent smuggling or bio-piracy

BACK GROUND: Immunization is painful and children show behavioral distress to pain while receiving immunization. A comparative study was conducted at the University of Georgia to isolate and compare children’s procedural anxiety and pain. Results suggested that anxiety and pain are highly correlated. Another study was conducted at the department of psychology, West Virginia University, Morgantown, USA to examine the nurse – directed distraction for reducing infant immunization distress. Results indicated that infants engaged in distraction and that distraction reduced their behavioral distress. These studies show that children experience behavioral distress to pain while receiving immunization. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY: 1. To determine the behavioral responses to pain among toddlers’ who are given a Cartoon video (Group A) as distraction while receiving Immunization. 2. To determine the behavioral responses to pain among toddler’ who are given Music (Group B) as a distraction while receiving immunization. 3. To compare the behavioral responses to pain in Group A and Group B. 4. To associate the effectiveness of Group A with selected Demographic Variables. 5. To associate the effectiveness of Group B with selected Demographic Variables. METHODS: Quasi Experimental post test only control group design was utilized and data collected by purposive sampling technique. The tool used for the study consists of demographic data, MODIFIED BEHAVIOURAL ASSESSMENT SCALE and physiological parameters. The populations of this study were 60 children of both sexes in the age group of 1 – 3 years. Conceptual framework used for the study was ROY’S ADAPTATION THEORY. RESULTS: The findings of the study revealed that the comparison of pain score Considering Group A toddlers, they are having 13.37 pain score and in group B toddlers they are having 20.03 score. Difference is 6.67 pain score. The difference between Group A and Group B pain score is large and it is statistically significant. It was analyzed by using student independent t-test. And the pain reduction was evidenced by the behavioral modified assessment scale. The association between level of pain reduction score and toddlers’ demographic variables are 25 – 30 months of age, male children, previous experience and mother accompanying with children during immunization where more reduced pain during immunization than others. CONCLUSION: Cartoon video therapy is very effective than music therapy in reduction of pain during immunization in toddlers

SigTree: A Microbial Community Analysis Tool to Identify and Visualize Significantly Responsive Branches in a Phylogenetic Tree.

Microbial community analysis experiments to assess the effect of a treatment intervention (or environmental change) on the relative abundance levels of multiple related microbial species (or operational taxonomic units) simultaneously using high throughput genomics are becoming increasingly common. Within the framework of the evolutionary phylogeny of all species considered in the experiment, this translates to a statistical need to identify the phylogenetic branches that exhibit a significant consensus response (in terms of operational taxonomic unit abundance) to the intervention. We present the R software package SigTree, a collection of flexible tools that make use of meta-analysis methods and regular expressions to identify and visualize significantly responsive branches in a phylogenetic tree, while appropriately adjusting for multiple comparisons

Disorder-induced critical exponents near a ferromagnetic quantum critical point in Mn1−xCrxSi

We report the observation of critical behavior in Mn1−xCrxSi (0≀x≀1) close to a T = 0 K quantum critical point, consistent with the Belitz-Kirkpatrick-Vojta (BKV) theory of disordered metallic ferromagnets. The critical exponents are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions of the BKV theory in the preasymptotic limit. A non-Fermi liquid-like behavior is seen down to 200 mK in the transport and thermodynamic properties around the critical concentration xC = 0.2. Quantum criticality and self-consistency of the exponents is further confirmed using a scaling analysis of the magnetization and heat capacity data. A recovery to Fermi liquid-like behavior is displayed on moving away from the critical composition, as well as with the application of a magnetic field

Influence of Behavioural Training on Interpersonal Competence with Reference to Generation X Managers

    Get PDF
“Generation X” is phrase that has gained entry into modern management literature. Generation X managers are expected to shoulder leadership responsibilities to steer future organizations towards excellence. However, not much research work has been carried out in Indian context to study the characteristics and preferences of Generation X and influence behavioural training on their interpersonal competence. Hence a study was conducted to study the influence of behavioural training on the interpersonal competence of Generation X managers. Data for the study were collected from 243 Generation X managers from a population of 353. The respondents were from nine companies that belonged to seven manufacturing industries. This paper presents the profile of Generation X managers, establishes the need of the study, the methodology adapted to collect the data for the study and discusses the findings of the study. Keywords: Generation X, Interpersonal Competence, Behavioural Training
